ICJV Endorses the LCA on the Age of Criminal Responsibility
We support the Law Council’s call for an immediate increase in the age of criminal responsibility to 12 years and the introduction of a minimum age of 14 years for the detention of children. The authority for the Law Council’s proposal is the Convention on the Rights of the Child. That Australian law should reflect our international obligations is a first step to redressing the terrible mistreatment of children in the juvenile justice system.
