Applications Open for the ICJV / Victorian Bar 2019 International Internship Program

The Victorian Bar and the International Commission of Jurists Victoria (ICJV) are calling for applications for the Pilot International Internship Program, from approximately 28 August 2019 to 27 September 2019.

The participant will be a lawyer from the Asia Pacific region working in an area related to human rights and the rule of law. This program will provide a lawyer with an opportunity for a productive exchange of knowledge between Australia and their home jurisdiction.

The participant will engage with the Victorian litigation system through observing trials and working with Judges in the Federal Court of Australia and Victoria’s County Court. The participant will also work with barristers in areas relevant to the participant’s ’s professional or research interests. The participant will have opportunities to engage with Community Legal Centres and human rights organizations. The participant will take part in advocacy training with the Victorian Bar’s Readers’ Course for new barristers.

The participant will be invited to share their work and research interests with Australian legal practitioners in formal and informal settings, for the purpose of enabling constructive dialogue and developing mutual awareness of common challenges.

Applications must be submitted no later than Sunday, 26 May 2019.
