Scott Morrison allegedly delays processing of refugees
ICJ Victoria is alarmed by the reported actions in 2013 of then Immigration Minister, Scott Morrison, to stop asylum seekers being given permanent protection visas.
The Rule of Law demands that all law makers and executors be bound by the legislation that exists. To retrospectively deny genuine refugees lawful protections, the Minister appears to have deliberately delayed the administrative procedures in place. As a result, many vulnerable people were subjected to the new regime of harsh government laws.
If the reports are accurate, interfering with the operation of the legal process in this way suggests administrative misfeasance, and indicates a Cabinet Minister’s wilful disregard for modern standards of Human Rights laws.
