Submission to 13th Australia-Vietnam Human Rights Dialogue
On 23 June 2016, DFAT ran the 13th Australia-Vietnam Human Rights Dialogue. ICJ Victoria has a commitment to protecting human rights by encouraging respect for, and implementation of, international law. As such, ICJ Victoria prepared a paper for the Dialogue.
The paper compares the treatment of Vietnamese Asylum Seekers during the 1970s and 1980s, to the treatment of present day Asylum Seekers. The comparison demonstrates that Australia’s standards for treating people seeking refuge has significantly deteriorated.
