Every year, ICJV hosts a fundraising dinner and auction at the RACV club. This is the main way that ICJ generates the funds required to host the International Human Rights Fellow and our other events during the year.
Each year, the Dinner hosts an eminent speaker or speakers to address a timely human rights issue from a unique perspective. Past speakers include:
- 2019: Michele O’Neil, ACTU President; Felicity Broughton, Deputy Chief Magistrate; and Fiona McLeod S.C, Co-Chair of the International Bar Association’s Diversity Council.
- 2018: Professor Rosalind Croucher, President of the Australian Human Rights Commission
- 2017: Former Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia, the Hon Robert French AC
- 2016: Patrick Dodson, Senator from Western Australia, former chairman of the Council for Aboriginal Reconciliation and Commissioner for the Royal Commission into Aboriginal Deaths in Custody.
In addition to the above speakers, the ICJV International Human Rights Fellow addresses the ICJV community on the situation of human rights in the country they work in.
A date has not been set for the 2020 Fundraising Dinner, on account of COVID 19.
